In 2022, Aberdeen City Libraries launched a small scale project with a local primary school to utilise the green space around the community library and grow produce and flowers.

What began as a single project working with a small group of children, quickly became a city-wide initiative aimed at enabling people to grow their own fruit and vegetables. The project’s aim is to use gardening to benefit residents’ physical and mental health.

The initiative ranged from programming educational public events about all things gardening, to organising seed giveaways and building planters outside library buildings.

Join this webinar to hear about how the smallest seed of a project idea germinated and grew across Aberdeen, enabling citizens to utilise their own green spaces, whatever their size, to benefit their mental and physical wellbeing.

A session for anyone keen to start a seed exchange, develop an existing seed library, programme healthy eating initiatives or explore the intersection between gardening and wellbeing.
