How do young people feel when they engage with libraries? What barriers do they face and how does this affect their likelihood to return? How can we create inclusive and welcoming environments for young people?
Join us for a condensed version of the I’m A Teenager... Get Me Into There! training course developed by Curious Minds, a charity working to ensure all children and young people have access to the transformative benefits of creativity and culture.
In their role as an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation, Curious Minds supports public-facing staff to feel more confident in their interactions with young people. They encourage staff teams of cultural and heritage venues as well as libraries to consider questions surrounding teen engagement and inclusivity.
This webinar will explore the following themes and activities:
- What teenagers really think about their experiences of heritage, arts, culture and libraries.
- 'Sliding door’ moments which can lead to positive or negative experiences for young people and staff.
- Practical actions and examples of libraries responding to this work.
- The session will conclude with a film commissioned and created by Oldham Theatre Workshop which outlines what is happening in the teenage brain and consider the implications this has for our work with young people.
Our speaker Teresa Baggaley will discuss where our (mis)perceptions of teenagers come from, what they really think of arts and cultural experiences, the teenage brain and situations that can lead to positive or negative outcomes.
This webinar is aimed for anyone working within a cultural, heritage, learning environment or interested in improving interactions with young people.
After the session you will have access to the full, free self-directed online version of the course.
