How can nature enhance wellbeing? And how can libraries play an active role in connecting young people to nature in engaging and creative ways?

In this session Julie Whelan, Learning Manager and Nature Connectedness Lead at Kew Wakehurst will talk about nature connectedness and how you could incorporate this approach into your programme.

Nature connectedness research forms part of Nature Unlocked, Kew’s pioneering research programme which sees scientists use Wakehurst’s diverse landscapes as a living laboratory, collecting high-quality scientific data to unlock the power of nature for people and the planet.

In 2022 Kew Wakehurst ran a pilot research study exploring how different biodiverse environments impact on mental health and wellbeing. Since then, the Wakehurst learning team has embedded nature connection into its thriving learning programme which welcomes over 11,000 pupils a year.

Join Julie to learn more about:

  • The science behind the benefits of connecting to nature.
  • How to use the world of plants inside and outside to connect to nature, using whatever you have, wherever you are.
  • How to use plants and their stories to inspire an appreciation for the wonders of the natural world.

This webinar is aimed at anyone in libraries running learning programmes, family events or gardening activities and will also be of wider interest to GLAM professionals keen to learn more about the health and wellbeing impacts of engaging with nature.
